MEMBERSHIP - ELIGIBILITY There are three levels of Membership of the Association: (i) ASSOCIATE MEMBER (no entitlement to designatory letters). Open to any person who can show an interest in Body Piercing and although not necessarily in practice, has agreed to the Code of Practice and Ethics set out in Appendix I. Also is open to body piercers who have been qualified for less than one year. After a year and providing that a satisfactory level has been achieved, can then become full members. (ii) MEMBER (Designatory letters: M.B.B.P.A.) a) Open to any person who has attained a satisfactory standard in a written and practical examination set by The British School of Body Piercing. b) Who has gained a Certificate/ Diploma from a Training School in Body Piercing approved by The British School of Body Piercing, and has agreed to the Code of Practice and Ethics. c) In order to be accepted as a full Member of the British Body Piercing Association, the individual must be established in, or be proposing to establish, a Practice in Body Piercing and have been practising body piercing for over one year. The Council of Management may refuse to admit any person to Membership or Associate Membership and their decision shall be final and binding. d) Diplomas and Certificates are awarded to an individual and not a business, which is a separate decision where all staff have to hold a certificate and/ or diploma as in (a) and (b) above. (iii) FELLOW (Designatory Letters: F.B.B.P.A.) Reserved for any Member (in accordance with the provisions of Clause (ii) above) who satisfies The British School of Body Piercing that his contribution to the use of Body Piercing, or to the furtherment of the aims of this Association, are such that his services should be so recognised. NOTE: Throughout the ensuing sections of this document, and throughout its Appen-dices, the following interpretations shall apply:- The terms ASSOCIATE or ASSOCIATE MEMBER, MEMBER and FELLOW shall be taken as having the meanings ascribed to them in Clauses (i), (ii) and (iii) above, respectively. The term MEMBERSHIP, except where otherwise defined, shall be taken to include all categories, Associate, Member and Fellow. Recently qualified individuals must have a local piercer who shall be used as their mentor and cleared by the association to have achieved a satisfactory level of competence and preferably a member of the association, for a period six months, as part of their Associate membership and the name and address of the mentor must be sent to the association.
Membership of the Association shall confer the following benefits:- (i) Members and Fellows of the Association shall be entitled to use the appropriate designatory letters (or wording) of accreditation after their names in any or all official correspondence or professional and promotional material, subject to the limitations set out elsewhere in this document and Appendices. (ii) So far as is reasonably practicable, a list of the names of current Associates, Members and Fellows shall be maintained by the Association and a copy of The Register of Professional Qualified Body Piercers will be supplied without charge to individuals and organisations inquiring about the Association and its work. (ii) A complete interactive "Laying the Foundations" health and safety pack which contains all procedures, practices and includes business and law which is regularly updated. Includes floppy disc.
